Oppikoppi is going down in August, and it’s going to be a great party just outside the dusty town of Northam! Are you prepared? Have you double checked your tent? Did you buy 58 503 tent pegs (all of them will be lost) and do you have your tickets yet? If not, click here. With that said, we’re asking Oppikoppi artists 7 lekker questions about the festival, and even asking for a few hints and tips for first-timers. We talked to Andrew from Thieve.

Do you have any advice for people who are attending the festival for the first time?

Yes. Any kind of face mask is a must, and know exactly how to get back to your tent before taking your shrooms.

Where is the best place at Oppikoppi to wind down, or have a few beer with the mates?

The farm is breathtaking as a whole, but the top bar is where it’s at. Or on one of the decks.

Which band would you most like to have a few beers with at Oppikoppi this year, and why?

I’m looking forward to hanging with the Shortstraw boys at their Boosh stage this year. They’re top guys and I think the fact that they’re investing their fee and more to bring bands who weren’t booked for Koppi to the festival is an admirable move.

How would you describe a typical Thieve performance?

Every Thieve show is a gift for us. We don’t get the time to play nearly as much as we should together, so expect four dudes having a fucking great time.

Yes! Out of all the years you’ve been to Oppikoppi, which one was your favourite? And why?

I think 2014 was great. It was Thieve’s first Koppi and by far the biggest show we’d played together. We have a really cool memory of doing a Fleetwood Mac cover as the sun was setting. Real teary stuff.

What’s the most random question you’ve ever been asked at Oppikoppi?

I encountered a guy a couple years back who was tripping balls running around asking if anyone had seen a bag of 32 disco biscuits he’d allegedly misplaced. I think by the time he came up to me the pills had found him.

What has been your fondest memory of Oppikoppi?

My first time. As a kid just getting into the industry, I was blown away by the size of it all and the integration between artists and fans. It was one of the fire-starters for me.

Deep! We would like to thank Andrew and Thieve for their time. Be sure to check them out when they hit up Oppikoppi!
