With that said, we had a quick chat with the guys at Hazeldean Brewery ahead of the festival:

How excited are you guys to be part of Capital Craft Beer Festival 2019?

This will be our fourth year at Capital Craft beer fest and every year we are just as excited to be there than the one before! This is a landmark festival for Pretoria and really showcases the best beer in Pretoria but also from across the country. it’s nice for us to rub shoulders with some of those breweries that had a hand in help starting the craft beer revolution.

What beers are you bringing to the festival? And which are you most excited to serve to the people?

We will be showcasing our bronze (African Beer Cup) and silver (South African National Beer Trophy) award-winning Vienna Lager; Our Silver (South African National Beer Trophy) medal winner the Hazeldean Milkstout; Premium Pale Pilsner; Amber Weissbier; Lemon Radler Shandy; Grapefruit Radler Shandy. The Premium Pale Pils won the third place as the most sessional beer of the fest in 2018 and we hope this one will move up the second or first place spot at this year’s fest.

What makes a craft beer festival such a rad jol for you?

Definitely the Camaraderie with the other breweries at the festival but also just seeing the public enjoying themselves and being a part of creating that enjoyment and fun!

Which of the other brewers are you keen on having a few beers with at the festival?

Zwakala for sure! Those okes pack a party and a good attitude. Also our Pretoria brethren Friars Habit and then of course Frontier Beer; we do a few collaboration brews with them each year and they are definitely at the forefront of barrel aging beer in South Africa.

Why should people have a few beers at your stall at Capital Craft Beer Festival 2019?

We have certainly cemented ourselves as a solid Pretoria Based Brewery. Loud and Proud!!! We pride ourselves on the quality of our beers and the medals we win at both the National Beer Trophy and African beer cup speaks to that.

Why do you think craft beer festivals are a necessity in South Africa?

Counter to what a lot of folks out there think, the craft beer revolution has just begun! It’s our job to educate and entice and festivals play a major part in creating a platform to do just that.
