It looks like Zombieland 2 is actually going to happen! We loved the first film that was released in 2009 and it’s exciting to hear that a sequel is actually in development. The news comes from screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. It’s hard to believe that it’s been almost ten years since that first movie was released! In that time Emma Stone became a huge star and won an Oscar for Best Actress and the zombie genre has oversaturated the entertainment industry. Regardless, the first film was a ton of fun, so if they make a sequel, you can count us in! While talking to Vulture, the screenwriters revealed that the sequel is being prepped for release in October of 2019 and that the original cast will return! That cast includes Emma Stone, Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson and Abigail Breslin. Wernick says: “We’re going on the tenth anniversary of Zombieland. Zombieland came out October of 2009. We don’t know what you get someone for their tenth anniversary, but it may be a Zombieland 2. The hope is that we’re shooting that thing early 2019 for an October of ’19 release. With the original cast, by the way.” It doesn’t seem like it’s set in stone, but it does sound like they are confident that it will happen. He goes on to say: “We are sitting on information that we can’t entirely share at this moment, but we can just say we think fans of Zombieland who have been hoping for a Zombieland 2, that we will grant their wish very, very soon.” What did you think of Zombieland and are you looking forward to a sequel all these years later?
