Johannesburg hardcore veterans Truth & Its Burden kick off their 2018 touring schedule with the IRON & FIRE TOUR.

The tour spans across all major South African cities in support of their recent 2017 I Labour full-length release.

The IRON & FIRE TOUR also features support throughout the country from the likes of; Facing The Gallows, Red Helen, Bottom Feeder, Write-Off, Life Below, With Dawn, 13th Empire, A Fate Like Yours, Blood Ret and Thorns Of Ivory.

“We’re always so excited to be out on the road again, and there’s a real sense of freedom and brotherhood that comes together on the long trips. We have a new bassist Sean, and the TAIB camp is really in high spirits about our live shows and of course the new album. There’s still so much ground to cover on promoting “I Labour” and these tours are what it’s all about – getting it out there and getting people stoked.” – Ashley De Beer, vocals.

It’s a safe bet to describe the collective minds of Truth & Its Burden as brim-full of heart, hope, optimism and a fresh positive take on daily crisis. Constantly thinking of new ways to cement a positive attitude in the hearts of any person attending their shows or listening to their songs. They’re not just hopefuls waiting for the world around them to evolve into their childhood dreams; They’re inspired, free thinking individuals who have enough self-belief to power up these dreams with hard work and heartfelt dedication.

With that said, we had a quick chat with Ashley De Beer.

Hi, Ashley. Thanks for the time to chat. How excited are to do a national tour?

We’re pretty pumped yeah, having not been out for a while this is certainly a tour be excited for. We’re playing venues we’ve never been to before, playing with a few new bands and also sharing shows with old mates.

Touring can be tough sometimes, what do you do to keep the homesick vibes away?

Yeah for sure, obviously overseas tours are tougher in this regard. When you eventually do arrive home you kind of dont feel at home, which is weird. You have to fully re-adjust to home life. Of course, it’s been a while since doing long runs like that, but these short weekender runs are easy enough and don’t really leave anyone feeling homesick. Maybe tired for your own bed though.

Any crazy or funny stories in the past for the fans?

On one of the European tours, Calvin, Dale and Niekie spent the night out drinking and partying heavily. They arrived home sometime early morning and well yeah, things were rough. Anyhow, I heard this major thud and groans of agony. Calvin had rolled out of his bed, hitting his head on the table on his way down. I sprang to help the guy because it just sounded so painful and intense and he would not get up at all. I was kinda freaked out for a moment. To me of course, it was funny. To Calvin, not so much.

What can people expect from Truth and Its Burden on your national tour?

Good shows, new bassist, cool vibes and loads of energy. These new songs are still fresh and we just love playing them, so yeah you can expect smiles on our faces as we enjoy the sway and swing of new jams.

You have a few acts supporting you on the tour, which of the guys are you keen on having a few beers with?

We’re keen on hanging with the guys in Bottom Feeder and of course Facing The Gallows whom we’re jamming two dates with. All in All, there are great bands across the tour, so hopefully, we share some good times and great shows with everyone.

Truth & Its Burden has been around for more than a decade, how do you keep yourselves motivated to keep on playing shows and recording music?

Band is much like a marriage really, so you just hope that everyone still loves doing it. It’s not always easy to find or make the time for band, but you do what you can and enjoy it while you can. We love music, we love playing shows, we love writing music, we love recording music, sharing ideas and all things music. It’s a common interest that is hard to find, hard to maintain but fulfilling to experience when it’s sincerely all in place.

After the tour, what is next for Truth and Its Burden?

We’re currently scheduling a longer co-headlining nationwide tour. We should also be releasing a new music video shortly as well as new EP sometime late this year. Hopefully, it all works according to plan.
