It has been officially confirmed that a Place in the Sun has been cancelled.

It is with great sadness that we received this news, as it feels like a dagger in our music-loving chest. A Place in the Sun was promising in every aspect; the artists, the venue and the excitement around the whole event.

Before the internet and fans go on a witch hunt, let’s just talk about this for a minute or two. We live in South Africa. Shit is expensive and more so when trying to put together a music festival of this magnitude. The organizers really tried to bring this together, but as life would have it… it just couldn’t happen.

How dare they!? How dare they cancel an event in South Africa!? If this is your reaction, then just “Ai” man. It’s tough out there. We are involved in various other projects and things don’t always pan out the way it should. Kak happens, and you have to deal with it by looking into the future and obviously looking after the community as well.

Just look at this, they tried:

Don’t be a miserable fuck because you now hate the organizers, even though you have no idea what goes into something like this. Give them a chance. It will come right.

We hope that A Place in the Sun will happen in 2017… hell, we’ll even wait for 2018. Because just the passion and commitment that the organizers and artists had with this project (even though it is not happening in 2016) was electrifying. And you’ll never keep that passion down for long. Here’s to a Place in the Sun. We hope to see you soon.

This is their official release:

It is with the heaviest of hearts that the organisers of a Place in The Sun must declare the cancellation of the festival a mere week shy of the event.
The proximity of Nkwe Resort to certain medical facilities caused the community to intervene, and halt any further prospects of providing attendees with a Place in the Sun so to speak.

We understand the concerns of the community, and we could not with a clean conscience force the continuation of the festival at the expense of the community residing there.

After the many hours spent fuelled by all the intoxicating support from the artists, vendors, media and especially the unwavering love from the die-hard South African music fans this is surely a heavy burden to lay bare.

We trust that you will have the same regard for our sentiment that it’s not just about spreading good vibes, but also to respect the wishes and well-being of the community. We are as always ever thankful for the ongoing support. But be sure that we will find that sweet spot in the sun, soon.

All ticket enquiries kindly contact or festival attendees may contact 011 880 2199. Nutickets South Africa will gladly assist regarding refunds.
Kind regards,

The a Place in The Sun Team
