With Oppikoppi Odyssey approaching at rapid speed, and with tension building all around us, we can only get excited as hell for the festival! It’s around the dusty corner, and prawns from in and around South Africa are already busy stocking up and giving their livers a pep talk. With this in mind, we thought we should ask a few Oppikoppi festival-goers a couple of questions about the festival, and delve into some of their past experiences.

Michelle is an Oppikoppi-veteran from the Norfff. She’s on a never-ending quest to party each and every year. She’s the girl who shouts all the time, and downs a beer faster than you – Jip that’s her.

Michelle Scheepers

We had a chat with her about Oppikoppi and a few of her previous festivals.

1. If you could describe Mordor/District 9 in one word, what would it be?

– Treacherous

2. What’s the most random question you’ve ever been asked at Oppikoppi?

– Is that the guy from 7 de Laan?? I mean who watches 7de Laan?

3. Do you have any advice for people who are attending the festival for the first time?

– Do not expect too much, have an open mind, try everything but keep the good, if you know you can’t handle your drinks then don’t drink everything and if you can’t do drugs then well… JUST DON’T!!

4. Which year was your favorite Oppikoppi, and why?

– I would say Unknown Brother I think that was my first year I went? I had a blast we had a camp set up few meters from the stages. Everything was all spur of the moment for me, packed my bags left a note to my mom saying I will be back on Sunday, I missed school and we just had so much fun, there was peace at camp, no fighting no judging no moaning it was all perfect fun.
I liked the fact that I did not plan anything prior to it or got excited and it all turned out awesome.

5. Which band would you most like to party with at Oppikoppi, and why?

– This year Shortstraw, I like their vibe don’t have too much to say on that one, and all in all I would have loved to party with The Eagles of Death Metal, they look like they can party the week away and it seems like it was just one night… and of course their music is amazing to chill on.

6. Do you have any advice for people who want to have sexy-time after 2 days of hard drinking?

– DON’T, I cannot even begin to imagine how disgusting that is. And if for some reason you can’t keep your knickers up and your penis inside then at least be clean and use protection, I know Oppikoppi seems like Vegas where everything stays there but it is never the case 9 months later.

7. Ever pick up any injuries at Oppikoppi? If so, how did it happen?

– Last year Bewilderbeast for some reason I got sick so on the Friday I was KO I went to bed (stretcher) at 19:00 pm and slept through till Saturday afternoon.
It sucks when your whole camp talks about how much fun they had and your all like fuck I should not have slept, I should have grown some balls and just sip the pain away… but lesson learnt and I will not let it happen again.

We would like to thank Michelle for her time and advice regarding Oppikoppi! Oppikoppi will be from the 7th to 9th of August this year. If you happen to see Michelle at the festival, give her a high five, and a drink!
