Oppikoppi is almost here, and it’s going to be a lekker party! Are you prepared? Have you given your liver the rundown of #jol? And do you have your tickets yet? If not, click here. With that said, we’re asking Oppikoppi artists 7 kief questions about the festival and even asking for a few hints and tips for first-timers.

With that said, we had a lekker chat with Warwick from Hellcats.

Do you have any advice for people who are attending the festival for the first time?

Ag, you know everyone always says that it’s a marathon, not a race and that you should pace yourself and blah blah blah. We’ve personally never quite achieved any of that at Koppi. We drink too much, we rave too hard and we live our best lives. The only advice I can give is this : drink lots of water, EAT, nap when you can, wear hats and sunscreen, don’t take your phone into the fest grounds- you will lose it(I’ve lost 3 phones at Koppi- although one year I’m pretty sure I threw my phone into the bush screaming “this phone is weighing me dooooown”) and most importantly- watch as many acts as you can – it’s Lekker to get dopped and party hard but I guarantee you will regret not watching as many acts as possible. One of my favorite things about OppiKoppi is discovering new music- it’s a beautiful thing for a band to blow you away for the first time.

Out of all the years you’ve been to Oppikoppi, which one was your favorite? And why?

I have to say Oppikoppi Odyssey was my favorite. We had the best festival crew and watched the sun come up every morning after the jol. Dead Lucky played, Wolfmother played, Rival Sons played. It was a fucking banger. I think this was the year I threw my phone to the Wild.

Where is the best place at Oppikoppi to wind down, or have a few beers with the mates?

Top bar and random camps in Mordor. You meet the best people stumbling into camps while trying to find your tent.

If you could describe Oppikoppi in one song excerpt, what would it be?

“kan jy my albasters vir my vind“

Strangest thing you have ever witnessed at Oppikoppi?

A sober TUKS student. It was like bumping into Charlie Sheen at church.

If you could have one superpower for Oppikoppi, what would it be and why?

No hangovers. While you’re at Koppi you just drink through the pain and everything’s cool, but on that last morning when you’re driving home in the traffic and for pretty much a week after, you’re Googling “can I actually die from a hangover”

What’s the weirdest thing a fan has ever given you before or after a show?

I was once asked after a show if I would be a sperm donor for him and his wife- that was pretty fuckin weird. Fok.

We would like to thank Warwick for his time. Be sure to fokken check out Hellcats at Oppikoppi this year!
