Oppikoppi is om die draai! We can almost taste the dust. Have you cleaned your tent since the last Oppikoppi? And do you have your tickets yet? If not, click here. With that said, we’re asking Oppikoppi artists 7 questions about the festival and a few other random questions that you would like to know. We had a chat with the impressive Gerald Clark.

While keeping one foot firmly planted in the blues, Gerald has stepped outside musical boundaries. His acoustic Afrikaans album ‘Sweepslag’ (‘Whiplash’) was nominated as the best Alternative Music Album Afrikaans at the 2009 SAMA (South African Musicians & Artists) awards.

What have you done so far to prepare for Oppikoppi?

I’m bringing a big band to Oppikoppi and we will be there in full force with guns blazing!! I’m flying down to Cape Town on the 22nd to rehearse with my core band and then scheduled some rehearsals with my secret guest artists that will be collaborating with me at Oppikoppi. I’ve thought long and hard about the setlist while traveling through Namibia and Botswana recently and have come up with a killer one!! Oh yes.. and the outfit of course..;)

Which band would you most like to have a few beers with at Oppikoppi this year, and why?

With my own band!  Just because they’re so busy with Karen Zoid at the moment and I’m traveling so much doing my own thing, I don’t see them often. Can’t wait to kuier with them again.

How would you describe a typical Gerald Clark performance?

All cylinders firing and swinging like hell!

If you could collaborate with any artist (dead or alive) for one show, who would it be? And why?

Nina Simone. Because she is God.

What’s the first thing you’re going to do when you arrive at Northam’s jewel, Oppikoppi?

Find the best place to set up camp and then go up to the bar and have a beer. I’m there on Wednesday already.

Who’s going to be your Oppikoppi wingman/woman?

The one and only Goldengoose!!

What would be your plan to survive the dusty outskirts of Mordor/District 9 for the weekend?

Catch 22!

We would like to thank Gerald Clark for his time! Maak seker dat jy nie die orkes misloop as hulle Oppikoppi aan die brand speel nie!
