Dream Noise Duo, Medicine Boy, are spending the winter at Digital Forest Studio recording a new album – the follow up to their debut, ‘Kinda Like Electricity’. This September they’ll be taking the full band on a spring tour around the country where they’ll be trying out some of their previously unheard material as well as giving the older songs new life. For a little taste of what to expect, watch the tour video here. Medicine Boy recently announced the re-pressing of ‘Kinda Like Electricity’ on 180g pink vinyl. The records will be available at all of the shows as well as through Permanent Record and Roastin’ Records. You can catch them at one the following shows: 13 Sept – Mystic Boer, Bloemfontein 14 Sept – The Bioscope, Johannesburg 15 Sept – Good Luck Bar, Johannesburg 16 Sept – Arcade Empire, Pretoria 20 Sept – Noble, Durban 21 Sept – Raggies, East London 22 Sept – Slipstream, Grahamstown 23 Sept – Music Kitchen, Port Elizabeth 27 Sept – Aandklas, Stellenbosch 30 Sept – Cafe Roux, Cape Town 5 Oct – Oppikoppi Festival With all of that said, we had a quick chat with the duo: Hey there. Thanks for chatting to us ahead of your Nationwide Spring Tour. How are you feeling about performing all around South Africa again? We’re really looking forward to it. The only other time we’ve toured SA this extensively was when the band had just started out. This time we’re bringing our amazing drummer and engineer along as well as a whole bunch of new toys and songs. Which shows are you looking forward the most on the tour? We’re really looking forward to all of them. All of them hold something special whether it be the first time in a venue or a great local line-up. On the 14th of September we’ll be doing an intimate set at The Bioscope Cinema in Joburg as part of a visual collaboration with Lucy Hazard which is very exciting. And then our show at Arcade on the 16th of September sees us on a line-up with Hello Beautiful and Southern Wild – both bands that we really love but haven’t yet performed alongside. You guys toured a lot. What is the most important thing to remember when on tour? Well, except for instruments and each other… Patience. And an exceptionally good (and long) playlist for the car. Hahaha! What can people expect from a Medicine Boy show? A lot of love and noise and reverb. Which unheard tune are you keen on playing at your shows? We’re busy recording our next album so that’s a pretty tough question to answer. At the moment the songs are busy fighting it out with each other as to which get to come out to play on this tour. And which song is your absolute favorite to perform? And why? This changes show to show – but there is generally something very special about playing Lashes live. An authentic kind of intensity. What is the hardest thing on such a Nationwide tour? The time spent away from home and friends? Or is it smooth sailing all the way? It’s certainly not smooth sailing but we’re pretty happy on the road. We generally spend most of our time together when we’re at home so there’s not too much missing that happens. I’d say one of the trickier parts of touring is managing sound in the different venues. But we’re very lucky to be taking our engineer with us this time around. It alleviates a lot of that pressure. The only thing that makes us sort of sad is the lack of good coffee to be found on the long roads. What can people expect from your new album? Any surprises in store for the fans? We’re recording as I write so the surprises are still revealing themselves to us. But yes, there certainly will be. It gets pretty noisy. It gets very very quiet. It remains kind of strange. Last question. How can people get hold of you? Facebook is probably the easiest way to get in touch with us. But any of the social media spaces will do. Our music can be found on iTunes, Bandcamp, Google Play and pretty much all the other platforms out there.
