“Why not me?“

It’s hard to tell whether they’re even being serious or not, but Andy Samberg’s comedy troupe The Lonely Island just tweeted out a fun Academy Awards video that they say wasn’t chosen to be part of the actual ceremony for various reasons.

We wrote a song for this year’s Oscars that was overly ambitious (expensive and a logistical nightmare) so it wasn’t produced,” the official Lonely Island account tweeted.

The plan was for the video to be a “fully shot, star-studded music video of exorbitant cost,” and we’ll sadly never get to see it as Lonely Island intended. That said, the troupe did upload their rough concept pitch, with temporary vocals and visuals!

“Why Not Me?” centers on the big name stars, characters and movies that *didn’t* get any Oscars love this year, including Pennywise. In fairness to IT, Bill Skarsgård’s performance as Pennywise was indeed Oscar-worthy…

Poor Pennywise and all the Chris’. They tried so hard.
