Last year was quite a big year for you, releasing your first single as a solo artist and being on The Voice SA. How was it to be a contestant on The Voice? Yes, it was a great year. Being on The Voice was definitely a great experience. One would think that after so many years performing on stages and on live TV it would have been easy… I have never entered a singing competition. I was so used to performing original music and mostly playing guitar that it felt like the first time performing on that blind audition. Being on The Voice I learned so much about my own voice and started to gain a lot of confidence singing songs that I never thought I could even consider singing. Are you still going to play with Klopjag? Or are you going completely solo? I will leave the KLOPJAG band the day I leave this earth. Because we don’t perform that much anymore (family-life, jobs) I needed a solo career where I can still perform on stage and continue writing songs. So far you have only released “Weightless” as your first solo single. When will your album be released? I am busy recording more songs at the moment. So the next single will be released in February. Fans can subscribe on my website: www.dawiedejager.com for updates. If you could perform anywhere in the world, where would it be and why? I would love to perform at the Royal Albert Hall in England. A lot of my musical heroes performed there. Who inspired you to go solo and bring out an album of your own? My wife and my whole family support me a lot to keep on doing what I Iove. I feel I have a lot more music in me to share with the world. What do you enjoy most about performing? The beauty in the imperfections. Going solo must have brought a few new opportunities along. What are your plans for the upcoming year? I am also busy with my Movie composer career. I have 2 films that will keep me busy for the first half of 2018. So I will start touring the country from July. But send me a mail at firstname.lastname@example.org if you need me at your venue sooner. Thanks for the chat. I’ll see all of you at Park Acoustics this weekend!
