Converse Sneakers

Converse announced the launch of SNEAKERS CLASH – a series of vibrant and colourful moments across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, designed to disrupt and clash against a grey world – kicking off in Amsterdam on Saturday, the 22nd of February.

For Africa – Cape Town (V&A Waterfront) gets set to clash on the 28th of February. Johannesburg (Braamfontein) will be next on the 7th of March 2014.

SNEAKERS CLASH will be brought to life through two engaging interactive activations – Wall of Clash and Photo Clash – bridging the gap between Converse’s fans on social media and a diverse range of artists in surprising physical spaces.

FOCUS – #ClashWall

#ClashWall will collide street artists with clashing styles at unexpected locations – challenging them to unleash their most visceral work against a dull, lifeless wall. It is here that they will be influenced by @Converse_Africa followers who make suggestions on what to paint – forming a democratic yet chaotic collaboration that will be anything but boring.

We give this, the Why Ed thumbs up!

SNEAKERS CLASH is inspired by the Winter 2014 Converse All Star sneaker collection, featuring dynamic pops of colour and elevated silhouettes to provoke youthful self-expression. Colourful tie-dye, bold colour blocking and striking archive prints create stylish looks perfect for brightening up the spring season.

The undoubted hero of the collection is the Converse All Star Chuck ’70 – a new take on an American icon.

Converse Chuck Taylor 70s

This season, Converse introduces the Converse All Star Chuck ’70. A new take on an American icon. Borrowing subtle details of sneakers from the era when Converse was celebrated by iconic rock & rollers, basketball legends who have won championships and skateboarders that have ripped pools.

The new Converse All Star Chuck 70s features slight differences that at first might only be recognizable to collectors and more astute fans. However, upon careful inspection this killer sneaker features added cushioning, higher rubber foxing, a smaller toe box and off-white midsole finish. Additional details include extra stitching on the sidewall, nickel hardware (eyelets and ventilation), a reinforced canvas heel strip, thick cotton laces and premium heavy grade uppers.

The original classic black and white sneakers will be available, together with other original colors by Converse in sunflower and crimson. The new Converse All Star Chuck ‘70 is anything but traditional. It’s the beating heart of counter-culture; the last one standing at the party, a vibrant shot of colour breaking out in a gray world.

The new 1970s Chuck Taylor All Star will be available in selected Stuttafords, Sportscene and Shesha stores, as well as online, with Superbalist and Style36.
